Maurizio Anzeri's unusual working process brings together found photographs and embroidery. Using portraits from the 1930s and 1940s collected at flea markets, Anzeri overlays abstract designs by sewing intricately patterned threads directly onto the photographic surface. Obscuring part of the photograph he both hides and heightens certain features of the face. His precise juxtapositions transform the discarded image, giving his portraits a disquieting and psychological presence.

Whilst in Paris I visited Les Annees 1990-2000. Volume II. Read more about this exhibition below:

One hundred and fifty designs, selected from the most emblematic collections, recreate the universes of the designers who contributed to these movements through their approach, stylistic experimentation and relationship to the profession, forging an often subtle and sometimes violent mixture of traditional craftsmanship and industry. The leading representatives of the various ‘schools’ – Belgian, British, urban, minimalist, haute couture, independent – all explored a particular passion and savoir-faire. With each collection, either paying tribute to their predecessor or establishing themselves as the figurehead of an emerging movement, these designers asserted their originality in increasingly elaborate shows.
Among the emblematic designers represented: Martin Margiela, Issey Miyake, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen and Helmut Lang

We have just returned from Premiere Vision in Paris to get a round up of the key fabrics, colour and prints for next season.

Key trends for spring/ summer 2012 include impression prints and botanical washed out florals. The seasons look is 'Colourful paleness', there was lots of bleached out denim and there is a just washed, slightly lived in look to dresses and trousers. Irregular dyed effects and overdyes give a slightly haphazard yet unique look to prints.

There is a strong African influence- think tie dye and abstract. Oriental ceramics and Japan-style mini graphics are also key.

As designers, it is no surprise that other designers and the High Street stores copy ideas from us. There is a difference between mildly being influenced by something you have seen and blatant copying. Last year Lov Li discovered a "designer" had taken images of our owls and birds from the internet and reproduced them onto mugs, T shirts, greeting cards baby grows etc. They were selling them on an online store called www.zazzle.co.uk. The funny thing was, that they had used canvas images which happened to have Rachel Taylor's signature on the bottom corner..this person obviously didn't notice. The quality was also so bad as they were quite low res internet images! Luckily a threat with court action made them remove the products but the person still had made money out of our designs.

Designer and friend of Lov Li Gemma Correll also has had here images copied by big names such as GAP and is deeply frustrated by this ongoing problem. See here blog http://gemma-correll.blogspot.com/2011/01/pride-and-plagarism.html

She says, "I feel like I'm at the bottom of a design-foodchain (along with all the other illustrators and artists that this has happened to) when we're the ones thinking of the ideas, only for the bigger companies to steal them and make their own crappy versions. We make pennies, they make billions. It isn't fair. "
